Tripadvisor reviews from our guests here at Gardner Hotel El Paso.
Tucked away behind several doors and staircases, and having views on two sides due to its corner location, Room 221 was the perfect place for John Dillinger to spend a few days in El Paso. We found the same to be true last month when we spent the night in Room 221. Navigating the hallways, stairways, and doors to reach our room was an adventure in itself, as we climbed beautiful marble staircases and opened obscure-looking doors that led to the upper floors. Many of the furnishings in the room appeared to be original, and it was fun to believe that we were sitting in a chair possibly occupied at one time by Public Enemy #1! The bathroom and the room itself were exceptionally clean, and the transom just added to the mystique of our surroundings. The hotel lobby is a museum in itself, showcasing many Dillinger-era items: a phone booth, a telephone operator’s station, an old sometimes-running elevator, and a display case of period memorabilia. The receptionist was extremely helpful and cheerful, and she gave us a good recommendation for dinner – a fun pizza parlor just down the block. The hotel also includes a hostel in the basement, and when I took a peek, I saw a kitchen, laundry, and a hallway that led to the sleeping quarters. When we travel, we seek out unique lodging and dining options, and the Gardner Hotel certainly lived up to our expectations. Others have mentioned noise – we stayed on a Friday night and heard nothing bothersome. (Ear plugs are provided for those who wish to use them). Staying in a historic hotel is not for everyone, but John Dillinger’s El Paso choice is the perfect place for folks who desire a nostalgic nighttime experience.”
“The Gardner hotel was super cute, nice, and budget friendly! I wanted to stay downtown and preferred a place that’s locally owned, which is exactly the Gardner Hotel! The whole staff was super friendly and had a nice list of restaurants and bars to try, as well as discounts for the places right next to the hotel. The room was super comfy and cute, with historically inspired furnishings (stayed in one of the renovated rooms). Coming from Austin, the price was great and as first time visitors to El Paso, we felt quite welcome! Would stay there again if my travels take me to El Paso again!”
“Clean, safe, and convenient
“I’d rather stay here because it’s convenient, waking distance from food and fun. Plus it’s Historic. Make sure to ask for the drink and food specials next door with your room key and special tours. YOU MUST STAY HERE.”
“The Gardener Hotel is newly renovated but has elegantly maintained its early 20th century feel. My stay was an experience in itself. The hotel is joined with several other small local restaurants and craft breweries. There is a speakeasy in the basement with a 1920’s style dressed bartender and original exposed brick! The staff went above and beyond to meet all my needs. Krishna did a bang up job helping me get settled and oriented to all the great attractions downtown. Do not miss this place, skip the Camino Hotel and head to The Gardener. They also have hostel and weekly rates. Best location downtown. Free parking with security and wifi. French Cafe right beside the hotel for breakfast.”
